An AirTag reportedly helped one family find its stolen luggage.
According to Queen City News, the family landed at Charlotte Douglas International Airport from Florida, and were unable to locate one of their bags at baggage claim when they arrived.
The owner of the bag had stashed an AirTag inside, and after some tracking discovered that the bag was in Gastonia, North Carolina, a short distance away. She traveled to the house where the bag was located and contacted police upon arrival.
Inside the home, the police officers not only found the bag in question but also the suitcase of another victim whose bag was also stolen from the airport. Unfortunately, the bag was relatively empty when it was recovered, with many of the items inside suspected to have been resold by the thief. The suspect was ultimately arrested and charged with multiple theft crimes.
The isn’t the first time an AirTag has helped recover stolen or misplaced luggage, and law enforcement is using AirTags more and more to locate missing property. Last month, Washington D.C. announced plans to distribute AirTags to residents in some neighborhoods as a way to make it easier for officers to track down stolen vehicles.
