An Indian woman, 26, was left stranded in Boston, United States after a Lyft driver fled away with her luggage and other belongings while she was on her way to the airport.

Shreya Verma, who graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in May and is currently interning in Boston, took to LinkedIn to recall the experience that happened while she was on her way to the Logan International Airport to board a flight to India to reunite with her family and be by the side of her father, who is battling cancer.

"Dear LinkedIn community, I am reaching out with a sense of urgency regarding a distressing incident I experienced with Lyft."

"Yesterday, at 6 PM, I booked a ride to Boston airport. Shockingly, after loading my luggage, the driver abruptly canceled, leaving with all my belongings, including my passport, VISA, OPT/EAD Card, and vital document, electronics, resulting in a devastating loss of $30,000," Verma wrote on the platform last week.

The woman wrote that she had been seeking help from Lyft's customer service, but the lack of information about the driver was not helping the cause.

"I have been actively seeking assistance from Lyft customer service, but unfortunately, crucial driver details remain elusive, compounding the challenges I am already facing. I implore Lyft to promptly contact the driver, urging the immediate return of my belongings."

"Equally important is providing the necessary ride details to the Cambridge Police Department, as it is critical for the ongoing legal proceedings," she wrote.

Verma criticised the lack of empathy from Lyft and asked for immediate assistance and added that she could be forced to take the legal route, if they failed to help her out.

The post generated a response from Lyft CEO David Risher, who said that the team was working to resolve the issue.

"Very sorry you’re going through this, Shreya. That’s absolutely awful. Our team is on it," Risher wrote in his reply to Verma's post.

Two days after writing the post, Verma again took to the platform to say that there had been no response from Lyft and urged them to reach out to her.

"Urgent: Lyft and David Risher, it's been nearly 48 hours since the traumatic incident I experienced, and I'm still awaiting your response. The gravity of this situation cannot be overstated—I've lost everything, including vital documents. The distress is overwhelming, and your lack of communication exacerbates my fear. What if the driver is still on the road, posing a threat to others or selling my belongings? Time is of the essence!" she wrote.

"Please, at the very least, reach out via call and email, share the steps you're taking, and assure me that the necessary measures are in place. We cannot afford any more delays. Let's prioritize safety, accountability, and swift resolution," Verma wrote.

Her second post got her a reply from Sean Aggarwal, a member of the Board of Directors at Lyft.

"Hello Shreya, sorry to hear about the situation you are facing. I just saw your post. Can you please send me your email? Best, Sean," he wrote.

Vice-president of global operations at Lyft Ameena Gill replied to Aggarwal, saying that she would take it upon her to stay in touch with law enforcement officials and help Verma get her belongings back.
