Every year, Condé Nast Traveler readers weigh in on their favorite destinations, hotels, airlines, and more in our annual Readers' Choice Awards. This year, for the first time, we added luggage to the list, so we could hear straight from the source what luggage brands you trust most. After all, no matter the trip—be it a safari, cruise, city escape, or weekend in the woods—you need something to carry your belongings. And for many of us, that same carry-on, duffel bag, or backpack becomes our trusty travel companion for years at a time. Below, find your fellow readers' favorite luggage brands, plus a few of each brand's most popular pieces of luggage, should you be looking to add a new weekender or roll-aboard to your collection.
15. Globe-Trotter
Readers rave about Globe-Trotter suitcases' design, durability, and spaciousness, noting the bags are a good pick for overpackers. The brand has had plenty of practice, making luggage since 1897, with suitcases that are largely made in the same way today. If you are a fan, you're in good company: British figures from Queen Elizabeth to Winston Churchill to David Beckham have sported the brand.
14. Victorinox
Traveler readers are fans of Victorinox's carry-on and checked-size suitcases alike, calling them roomier than most and longer lasting. With functions inspired by the Swiss Army Knife, it's no surprise these hold up.
13. Tumi
Tumi bags and accessories are always among the first to be snatched up during shopping events like the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and Black Friday, so we weren't surprised to see the brand rank on this list. One reader called their Tumi bags “indestructible,” while another described the bags as “bulletproof.” Hard-shell bags may be trendy, but Tumi's roomy and chic soft-sided options are worth checking out, too.
12. Gucci
As far as designer labels go, Gucci was one of two to make this list. Readers note the top-quality zippers, hardware, and clasps of Gucci luggage, much of which comes in the brand's signature prints. For a fresh pattern, look to the Gucci 100 suitcase, part of a collection celebrating the brand's centennial year.
11. T. Anthony
When it comes to duffel bags, readers turn to T. Anthony, which makes “stylish and ultra chic” bags worthy of bringing along to a destination wedding or on a business trip. Over the years, icons like Marilyn Monroe, Sir Elton John, and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis have all been photographed with T. Anthony luggage.
10. American Tourister
Not all luggage needs to be a splurge: American Tourister makes some of our readers' favorite pieces at a fraction of the price, and the suitcases still last for years at a time—according to reader comments, the luggage handles endure wear and tear “incredibly well.”
9. Samsonite
Strong, lightweight, and practical: you can't go wrong with a Samsonite bag. And should something happen to it, the service and repair policy is generous; one reader says they're confident their Samsonite luggage will outlast them because of it.
8. London Fog
While perhaps better known for its raincoats, London Fog also makes solid luggage, from hardside spinners to under-the-seat garment bags. And if you need a piece in a hurry, know that many of its bags are available on Amazon and at department stores like Macy's and Belk.
7. Louis Vuitton
Joining Gucci in the ranks of readers' favorite designer luggage, Louis Vuitton came in at number seven. One reader went so far as to call this particular luggage “the start to an amazing vacation,” while another says it's the most durable luggage you can find.
6. Rimowa
There's no question about it: Rimowa fans are passionate about their luggage. Readers call the suitcases “superb,” “the best luggage available,” and “a great heirloom to my travels.” The current faces of the brand—Patti Smith, Rihanna, LeBron James, and Roger Federer—are no slouches when it comes to travel, either.
5. Briggs & Riley
Founded in 1993, Briggs & Riley is one of the newer brands on this list, but it has quickly become one of the most beloved, thanks in part to smart updates like less-obtrusive handles (meaning more room for clothes inside) and a sturdy expansion-compression system. Shop popular collections like the Baseline and Sympatico lines.
4. Osprey
A brand made for travelers who love the great outdoors, Osprey's best-selling products include the Farpoint 55 and Fairview 55 travel packs. The brand makes wheeled luggage, too, which one reader has trekked across three continents with. Others note the bags are extremely lightweight and easy to roll.
3. Patagonia
Arguably the most popular outdoor brand in the game, it's no surprise Patagonia made this list. There's just no arguing with its ultra-durable, waterproof Black Hole packs and duffels. A lifetime warranty and commitment to social and environmental responsibility help make the brand an easy favorite, too.
2. Bric’s
For a bag that prioritizes style without sacrificing function, readers turn to Italian brand Bric's, which has been crafting travel bags and leather goods out of the Lake Como region since the '50s. Beyond the looks, these bags are easy to navigate through airports smoothly and quietly.
1. Away
Coming in at number one: Away, the much-talked-about brand that's less than a decade old. You know and love them for the lightweight suitcases that made built-in chargers the norm. In recent years, though, the brand has expanded to offer luggage and travel accessories for every occasion, from overnight bags to pet carriers to jewelry cases, with famous faces like Serena Williams and Rashida Jones occasionally stepping in to create limited-edition collaborations.
