Airport security agents have seized six loaded guns from the luggage of Oregon passengers over the past 10 days, the Transportation Security Administration says.
Agents found five of the guns in carry-on luggage at Portland International Airport and one at Rogue Valley International - Medford Airport. Taking a loaded gun on a commercial flight is illegal.
Guns must be unloaded, packed into a locked, hard-sided case, declared to the airline and placed in checked baggage. Fines for taking a loaded gun on a flight can cost between $2,050 and $10,000.
Oregon’s TSA Federal Security Director Stephen Taber called the number of loaded firearms seized over a 10-day period “astounding” and urged people to check their carry-on luggage before coming to the airport.
