Norwegian Air Now Charges For Hand Luggage - GET.com

As of January 23, Norwegian Air began charging for hand luggage. Though, if you already bought a ticket before January 23 for a future flight, you don't have to worry about the new fee.

Previously, all flyers on Norwegian Air could bring one carry-on bag free of charge. Travelers could also bring one small personal item that could be placed under the seat in front of them. In addition, passengers were allowed to carry on a bag of duty-free goods purchased at the airport.

Now, customers who buy the lowest fare type with Norwegian will only be able to take one hand luggage item onboard. The hand luggage must weigh under 10 kilos and fit under the seat in front of them. If the passenger can't fit their luggage under the seat in front of them or if it weighs over 10 kilos, they will incur an extra charge.

The new hand luggage policy is as follows:

• LowFare: one bag under seat (30 x 20 x 38cm) and no overhead cabin item permitted
• LowFare+: one bag under seat and one bag in the overhead cabin (55 x 40 x 23cm), combined weight must be 10 kilos or less
• Flex, Premium, PremiumFlex: same rules as LowFare+, but with a 15 kilo weight limit

If you are flying on a LowFare ticket and want to bring in extra bag that goes in the overhead bin, you will have to pay between $6.50 and $11.70. You can find out more on Norwegian's website.

According to Norwegian, the carrier has implemented the changes to speed up the boarding process so flights can depart on time. One piece of good news is that the maximum weight per checked bag has increased from 20 kilos to 23 kilos.

Customers flying on LowFare+ tickets can bring a checked bag, up to 23 kilos while Flex, Premium or PremiumFlex customers can bring two checked bags, each with a maximum weight of 23 kilos.
